Service Description
This course is designed for children who already have a basic understanding of Python. It is a follow-on course after Beginner Python or for learners with equivalent experience. In this hands-on course, children will learn step by step how to create a classic 2D platformer game using Python and the Pygame library. They will explore how to: • Use spritesheets to animate characters • Build game levels using tilemaps • Program player movement, collisions, and scoring • Add sound effects, background music, and a menu system By the end of the course, children will have created their own complete playable game, while strengthening their problem-solving skills and understanding of real-world game development techniques. This course is part of the advanced stage of the Catford Coding Club curriculum and builds on the foundations introduced in Beginner Python. Suitable for children age 10 to 15 already familiar with the basics of Python - loops, variables, functions and conditionals.
